“A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever…”
What is Style Stories?
Style Stories is a celebration of the memories attached to the clothes we love and have fun with. The New Creatives at Jumped Up Theatre invite you to get involved and share your stories of clothes that mean something to you…
Everyone has a piece of clothing that means a lot. Whether it’s the dress you wore at your wedding, the suit you wore to Prom, the shoes you wore to climb a mountain or the jacket you wore to every concert you’ve ever attended. Do you have a lucky tie? Or a Saree you were given by a member of the family? Perhaps you have a coat from the 50’s that you keep in perfect condition, or maybe a pair of denim jeans from the 70’s that you are constantly repairing or adding patches to.
Whatever the fashion, whatever the item; if it means something to you, we want to hear the story…
Tell Us Your Style Story
The New Creatives want to hear about you and your special articles of clothing.
Tell us about the piece of clothing and how you got it, if it was given to you, tell us about your relationship with the person who gave it to you. Tell us all about the great memories you have of times you’ve worn it, and how important it is as a part of your life.
Use the button below to go to our online submission form.
The New Creatives will follow up on some submissions with a request to join us for a mini photo-shoot in June 2024 to be used in an upcoming exhibition.
Style Stories Examples
These examples were made up by the New Creatives, who created characters and stories based on items of clothing borrowed from Sue Ryder.
I was clearing out my great grandad’s attic and I found his old uniform. He was a train conductor. I wear it to vintage fairs and 1940s festivals.
I love this scarf, scarves can be versatile and worn as a head wrap, top scarf and sarong. I found a lovely belt with a beautiful design on it, however, it was too loose on me so I poked a new hole into it. Now it reminds me that change is possible.
All night, I carefully sewed it to the bottom of the coat, covering the stains and breathing in new life. Then, I carefully sewed up the holes and embroidered little stars over the repair patches.
My blazer was given to me by my Granddad after his passing and I wear it before every football game. He used to come to every single one of them and I use it as my lucky charm because every time I’ve worn it, I’ve won.
