Cold Snap by Clare Currie
Women’s sport: battleground or sanctuary?
Can we celebrate the power and resilience of women’s bodies? Clare Currie is a sportswoman, and a wife, mother, daughter and friend. She grapples with a love of sport, the strains of the ageing process and the demands of modern life. But what happens when sport is no longer a sanctuary and becomes a new battleground for her to conquer.
Jumped Up have supported the development of Clare’s first theatre piece from the beginning. The concept was developed through a women’s playwrights group, and then developed for a scratch performance as part of out theatre festival, Platform8, directed by Jumped Up’s Creative Producer, Kate Hall.
In November 2019 Clare, as part of her Develop You Own Creative Practice, Arts Council funded, programme, added sound, by Ross Sutherland. and film by One To One Development Trust, for a full-length scratch performance at The Junction as one of the selected pieces for Troop’s View From The Bridge Event.
Jumped Up are now supporting Clare in writing funding bids and pitching for tour dates in 2021 as a COVID-secure, site specific performance in sports venues. If you are interested in more information about the tour please get in touch via our contact page HERE.
Clare Currie was Poet Laureate for Peterborough from 2017-2019, a founder member of the SYNTAX Poetry Festival and is an Associate Artist for Jumped Up Theatre.
