New Creatives Homeless Poetry Transcripts
The poetry created by our 8 young people with Surfing Sofas is provided in written form below.
The poems are transcribed and provided with the same format, spelling and presentation the artists used for their original pieces.
Poem 2:
I see figures covered
in rainproof material,
covered up like a cat,
ethereal.
Tomorrow won't just be
another day it will be the
same day.
Rethinking the passersby
and their clay faces.

Poem 1:
I see people instead of numbers
Instead of problems that need
erasing from our view
What people don't understand is this:
We don't just go away becaue you
choose we don't exist.
My tomorrow or your tomorrow?
Neither can be promised but hey,
yours is safe you know?
Inside those four walls, you can hide.
I'm exposed.
With no where else to go, out here,
outside.

Poem 4:
CHANGED BUT NOT BROKEN
HOMELESS BUT NEVER HOPELESS
ANGRY AT THE EXCUSES
NOT ENOUGH, NOT WORTH IT
GREED & DISDAIN LET YOU MAKE THIS MESS
EMPTY HEARTS AND EMPTY HOMES SIT LONELY

Poem 3:
Look Inside
I see a hook, i'm hung upon, a place to rest and watch
others from
my decade old friend puts me there softly with care
inside tonight, and for a moment, all is right
free from judgement and a passer by's stares
a nomad ripped from security but never truly alone my
friend takes me with him into a vast unknown
i would rather be a wardrobe, or a wooden chest of
drawers brimming with belongings in my own personal
four walls
tomorrow could promise me this, a welcome change but
no promises have ever been cemented or sincerely made
look inside, while i'm sparse, my soul is rich, never empty
fear of abandonment, please don't forget me
people can find their destination
if the supportive framework is there
if we open our hearts, unguarded
to show we care just like a backpack,
you need to look inside
connect to fight the stigma
keep the flames of change alive
