Our Leaders Gallery
All the pictures below are from local youth arts organistions and leaders that have either been featured in Peterborough Matters as part of our #FierceTalentYI campaign, or have sent in nominees to be part of the Fierce Talent Film.
Kaine from Korporate “Korp was an early member of the global art movement known as Free Art Friday and in 2012 he featured on the BBC Culture Show alongside Fin DAC and My Dog Sighs. More recently you will find him painting at some of the many live street art festivals throughout Europe.”
Kindred Drama “KYT, presented by Kindred Drama, has been a creative home and life-line for thousands of children and young people, since it was created in 1992. It is a place where are given a powerful artistic voice, as well as creative training across a broad spectrum, and a place where their voices are heard, where they are challenged and where they are able to create theatre, in many forms, to the highest possible, professional, standards.”
Aurora Rose Ballet “ARBS specialises in Ballet training, offering Ballet classes with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) for children aged 2-18 and adults. ARBS offers the students many opportunities through training, examinations and shows. Our classes have been created for all types of dancers. Whether you are looking for fun recreational dance, wanting a professional career or to train for further education at a vocational dance school or university, we cover it all.”
Benny Turner from Beat This “I’ve always felt this attachment to Peterborough, I’ve managed to make a living making music here. I’ve seen first-hand how people come together to create in Peterborough but there’s so much still to be done and I want to continue helping to improve the opportunities here.”
Daniella Fasulo from Dance No End “The journey of running my own dance business has been interesting, rewarding, trying, fun, exhausting, exciting…but I love it! My goal is to give the students new and innovative dance experiences. I continue training with other teachers, you never stop being a student and the more I learn, the more I am inspired to give more and my students are my biggest inspiration.”
Di Goldsmith from UROCK and PHACE “Working with young people has been the core of my lifetime of work, young people are our future and I’ve included youth voices throughout my career. For 10 years at UROCK we’ve maintained a programme across schools and offer contemporary theatre and cutting-edge new writing for young people to engage with.”
Goldhay Arts - Inclusive Arts Goldhay Arts is a registered charity offering weekly sessions in the performing and visual arts to adults with learning disabilities since 1994. Our aim is to provide a quality service with an emphasis on personal development through experience of the performing and visual arts.
Chloe Wilmot from Chloe’s Dance Company “I didn’t used to feel in tune with the cultural side of the city but have been getting more involved through my work on the Body and Soul project with Jumped Up Theatre. The arts have been a lifeline for so many during lockdown and I think people are starting to realise how important they are which I hope will lead to more opportunities for people in Peterborough.”
Mezzo-Soprano, Gabriella Pineda-Rodrigues “Since graduating with a BMus (Hons) from The Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, I learnt there are numerous underrepresented minorities in Opera. It has become my ambition to change this, so I decided to move back to Peterborough before pursuing a Master’s degree.”
Metal Culture, Peterborough “Metal is an arts organisation based at Chauffeurs Cottage in Peterborough, providing space and support for artists, from visual arts to spoken word poets and beyond! Our Metal New Artist Network is for young and early career artists to access free workshops and hear about local and national opportunities. As part of this we have a dedicated programme for creatives to further develop interest in the arts and to help you discover something new, via workshops delivered by local and international artists.”
Saldance Theatre Arts “The Saldance Theatre Arts studios based in Fengate are home to a team of professionals who between them hold 9 Fellowship qualifications and have devoted a lifetime to the art of dance training. Principal Nicola Storton is an examiner for the International Dance Teachers Association and the whole team work together as part of the IDTA Anglia Area Theatre Committee to bring together dance teachers far and wide to train and network together.”
Artist, Tony Nero “I think it’s very important to work with young people. How can we say, they are the future, if we don’t allow them to be the future. Young people bring a raw freshness and life to creativity, they always want to change the world. I also find I learn a lot working with young people, especially when they want to explore. It’s important for us to help them to grow their minds to keep creativity alive.”
India Chadwick from Kindred Drama “I feel strongly that Peterborough has fantastic opportunities for young people in the arts and compared to many cities, the standard of talent and training is really astonishing! I am very attached to the Kindred Team and see them like a second family so I would travel from anywhere to come back to The Key Theatre.”
Ellie Sandall from Arts Stars “I think one of the most important aspects of working with young people is to show them that the arts are a viable career option, and that the creative industry is very broad and inclusive of a variety of specialisms.”
Roland Burt from Djibo Art “I think one of the main reasons for my success here is the diverse population who are often underrepresented and saw themselves and their communities in my work; my art is inspired by many cultural influences, such as West Indian art, African art and Neolithic cave paintings.”
