Learn! Perform! Be a Star!

Every year, Jumped Up Theatre partners with Shiamak Midlands (part of the international Shiamak brand) to bring Bollywood dance classes to Peterborough. Running twice a year, each 10-12 week term culminates in a live performance amongst other Shiamak dancers from across the region. Classes are open to all abilities, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced dancer.

Meet The Instructor

Rianna Ruparelia is a professional dancer and instructor with nearly two decades of dance experience and has recently completed ten years in the professional dance field. She is trained in a variety of styles including Indo-Contemporary (Shiamak Style), Hip Hop, Bollywood, and Jazz, and also holds qualifications in Kathak, a classical Indian dance form that has strengthened her technical foundation and understanding of rhythm and expression.

Rianna has been part of SHIAMAK Midlands since it first launched in the region and spent ten years training and performing in Shiamak’s prestigious Special Potential Batch (SPB), a professional dance group hand-selected by Shiamak Davar. Being part of SPB allowed her to develop her performance skills, versatility, and stage presence while representing the SHIAMAK style.

Throughout her dance career, Rianna has performed in numerous shows across the UK and internationally, gaining valuable experience on a variety of stages and platforms. Alongside performing, she has taught across the UK, working with dancers of all ages—from young children to adults—and has conducted workshops in styles such as Indo-Contemporary and Hip Hop.

Most recently, Rianna had the honour of performing in the presence of Catherine, Princess of Wales, marking a special highlight in her dance journey. She currently continues to inspire students as an instructor at SHIAMAK Midlands, sharing her passion for dance and encouraging others to grow in confidence and creativity through movement.

About the classes

Every class is a positive and respectful environment for everyone. We have drawn up some guidelines about our expectations for conduct during sessions, as well as the procedure for giving feedback during or after a session. Use the link below to read about our conduct guidelines and how to provide feedback.

About Performing

All our students have the opportunity to put their training into action by taking part in live performances, in costume, onstage, to audiences around Peterborough and beyond. Each term ends with various performance opportunities, whilst we hope everyone will join the term to perform. Some people can still join to take part and not perform. Please let us know when booking so the choreographer can plan parts accordingly.

The video here is from a performance at the Key Theatre’s Week(ender) event, where students from our classes danced with members of the public, performing choreography based on the iconic Bollywood film “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…” while being recorded by a professional filmmaking team, Reckless Abandon Media.
