5 New Creatives sitting together at a table with a local artist, all working on ideas

Who are the New Creatives?

Our New Creatives are a team of 16-to-24 year-olds who meet and work with the Jumped Up team and a professional artist to develop their skills, grow in confidence, and expand their understanding of theatre-making (especially clowning).

This year’s team will work together to co-create a new performance or event for young people in Peterborough that should motivate greater consideration of environmental issues.

Apply To Be A New Creative

This year, we’re inviting you to be part of an exciting team collaborating with professional artists, including Jason Mitchell. Together, we’ll co-create a performance or event aimed at addressing environmental issues in a fun, interactive, and thought-provoking way through games, performances, and shared creativity

Work With a Professional Artist

Our New Creatives will work with professional performer and clown, Jason Mitchell, to study comedy and gain a new appreciation for and understanding of performance.

A Little About Jason…

Jason has been performing and making theatre for some time. He started as a full-time professional actor, working for some fantastic theatre companies. That journey led him to the world of Half Mask, Full Mask and Theatre Clown.

Jason began training in Clown and found it a joy to learn something where laughing is at the centre. This inspired him to think about how clown training helps to look at the idea of change, social change.

Jason is an artistic director of Small Nose…Small Change C.I.C. - who have been devising shows and workshops using the ideas of curiosity, play, and creativity to ask questions and explore the answers to find the things we share and care about.

What have the New Creatives done before?

There are a wide range of projects that a team can take charge of. Here are a few examples of what previous teams have worked with Jumped Up to develop.

Style Stories (2024)

A celebration of the clothes that we grow to love and have fun with, and an informative, sustainability-focused initiative that was designed to encourage participants to save and repair clothes they own rather than always buy new ones.

Surfing Sofas (2023)

The New Creatives team worked with writer, Surfing Sofas, and local organisations Peterborough Citizens and the Light Project to produce a creative response to youth homelessness in Peterborough.

Right Here, Right Now (2022)

Right Here, Right Now is an online zine curated by the New Creatives of that year, with local design co-op, Paper Rhino. This time capsule of writing, drawings, videos and audio reveals what was important to Peterborough’s young people in that year.

Fierce Talent (2021)

Fierce Talent was Jumped Up Theatre's second creative campaign for Peterborough, co-created with the New Creatives. This campaign was a response the importance of creativity during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for young people. The New Creatives worked with local artist, Charley Genever, and film company, Reckless Abandon Media, to create a film that you can watch here.
