On my journey as a creative and an individual, I have found it useful to reach out to those close to me whether it's for emotional support or guidance on the direction I am taking. Leaning on a support system is a great way to feel recalibrated and reinspired. Your system can be made up of anyone who makes you feel positive or that can give you advice that you find beneficial! As you grow and develop, this system may change and that's okay too. I spoke to some of the people who are part of my current support system about the forms of support I receive from them and why that support is important.
Charley - “You almost have to create an echo chamber of your own work”
Charley is a professional poet and both a friend and mentor to me. I have great admiration for her bold and thought-provoking narratives. She has also been a guiding light through my journey as a creative and working poet. I ask her about her perspectives on the power of creativity, how to battle imposter syndrome and advice for those entering the working creatives world.
Anna - “If you love the thing you do, you’ll excel in it whatever it is.”
Anna is a dear friend to me, and the older sister I never had! She has stood by my side as I have found my feet and developed my independence as an individual. Her self-development advice has been deeply grounding and her unconditional support has given me the confidence in continuing on my path. We reflect on some of this advice in this conversation.
Adrian - "It's not just about the end results it's about the process"
Adrian is the better half of me and has been by me throughout my growth. He has always held space for me to discuss my thoughts and ideas and has continuously encouraged me on my journey. As he is also a creative, we enjoy learning from eachothers practise. We talk about the importance of encouragement and the effects of having someone to hold up a mirror and remind you of your progress and development.
