Catch Up With Peterborough’s Culture Forum:

At our last Culture Forum (Monday 14 Sept) attendees shared the projects they have been/currently are/working towards creating, building all out networks.

Below is a catalogue of the projects discussed in the forum and those who are leading them:

  • Metal Culture, Peterborough (represented by Ruth Campbell) - New Artists Network, for anyone starting out in the culture industry, offering free training, receive news letters, and have the opportunity for future residencies with Metal. Future Network Shorts, monthly online programme, 6 artists sharing 10-15 mins of their work on Metal’s Instagram Live (this project spans across all of Metal’s bases so is a national project).

  • Peterborough Presents, Creative People & Places (represented by Charley Genever) - Peterborough Presents have a new home with the Nene Park Trust and restarting projects in the near future, so get back in touch with them via their website. There will be a new programme director recruited next month.

  • Nene Park Trust (represented by Louise Thirwall) - 42 words project has now been installed across the parks. 14 artists were involved in the project tasked with responding to 3 words each, all suggested by the public. The works were created over a 5 week period and can now be found up in the parks until the end of October. New residencies are also due to start.

  • Youth Inspired (represented by Prin) - Youth Inspired have received ICF (Integrated Communitites Funding) and are encouraging people who want to create a youth based project in the city to apply to receive funding. They are offering funding up to £5k from ICF. Youth Inspired also still have thier Youth Investment Fund available up to £3k.

  • PHACE (represented by Diane Goldsmith) - Phace to Phace initiative, setting out to connect the young people with creative role models from the local area and get support from local businesses.

  • URock (represented by Diane Goldsmith) - a young person from URock has been commisioned by regional culture educational partnerships to develop films to follow up the previous URock Time Capsules project.

  • Say It Louder Community (represented by Gary Huskisson) - Alongside Peterborough Race Equality Council, Say It Louder have produced a book titled For The City’s Sake which looks at how the young BAME population of the Peterborough view race within the city. The book will heopfully be launching in October/November time. Say It Louder is a new project, which began as a reaction to the murder of George Floyd and is an online event showcasing poets from around the world who want to create change. There have been 4 Say It Louder events so far with the next being held on October 10th.

  • Fiction Fix (represented by Helen Gould) - Fiction Fix are going online. They will still be featuring writers from Peterborough but will also now be looking for writers from further afield to be featured/take part. The goal for Fiction Fix in future is to hopefully have global engagement. The first online event will take place on Sun 11 Oct, 4-5pm. There will be 6 10 minute sets.

  • Paper Rhino (represented by Amanda Rigby) - Have had an Arts Coucil bid accepted and their resident animator, Jason Duckmanton, will be working alongside poet Mark Grist to create a series of animations.

  • Eastern Angles (represented by Alyson Tipping & Keely Mills) - The Undercroft is reopening on October 1st. Working on a national initiative with touring companies called Signal Fires, which will be ran by Headlong Theatre. This event in October half-term will provide an opportunity for the young writers previously working with Eastern Angles to have their work presented.

  • Art Pop Up (represented by Sam Roddan) - creating small, hyper-local pieces of theatre to be taken out into communities out in Stamford. The performances will take place in the last week of September. Sam has highlighted the opportunity for learning around COVID secure theatre and will be available to talk about this on a personal level after the performances have come to a close. Art Pop Up have also been funded to produce a creativity for mental health project at the end of October for approx 2500 children in the local areas.

  • Craft4Smiles (represented by Fiona Adley) - Continuing to build their crafting community with existing participants. Currently have 4 funding bids in, if any are successful they will use the fund to expand their activities into Peterborough and back across Cambridgeshire. Craft4Smiles also have a website in the works that will potentially be going live within the next month and once it does this is where access to their both their online (pop up, 5-10 week, and year long) courses can be found.
